The Stone of Liquid Light
Selenite is one of the most essential tools in a crystal lover's kit. It is pure, high-vibration energy that never needs to be cleansed itself because it is constantly radiating light.
Origins & Formation;
Where it’s found: Most of the "Satin Spar" Selenite we see comes from Morocco. Giant crystal caves (some of the largest in the world) are found in Naica, Mexico.
How it forms: It is a variety of the mineral Gypsum. It forms in evaporated prehistoric seabeds.
Physical Properties: EXTREMELY SOFT (2 on the Mohs Scale). You can scratch it with a fingernail. It should never be worn as a ring and must be handled with care.
The Spectrum of Color;
Primary Appearance: Usually pearly white with a fiber-optic glow (Satin Spar) or completely clear and window-like (True Selenite).
Desert Rose: A unique, flower-shaped growth of Selenite mixed with sand.
Metaphysical & Healing Properties;
The Vibe: Clarity, purification, and angelic connection.
Spiritual Benefits: Tied to the Crown Chakra. It clears "cobwebs" from the mind and brings a deep sense of peace.
Holistic Uses: Used to "scan" the body to remove energy blockages. Many people keep a Selenite wand to "sweep" their aura after a long day.
Zodiac & Elements;
Zodiac Sign: Taurus. It provides a soft, peaceful contrast to the bull’s sturdy energy.
Ruling Element: Air.
Planet: The Moon (named after Selene, the Greek Goddess of the Moon).
Common Uses & Styling;
In the Home: Place Selenite windowsills or over doorways to ensure only "light" energy enters your home.
Jewelry: Usually found in pendants (where it won't get bumped) or as beads.
The "Crystal Coop" Tip: Use Selenite "charging plates" to charge your crystals after a long day of assisting you. It tells customers: "This stone cleanses everything it touches!"
Care & Cleansing;
WATER WARNING: Do NOT get Selenite wet. It is a salt-based mineral and will eventually dissolve or lose its shine in water.
Cleaning: Use a dry, soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush.
Cleansing: It doesn't need it! In fact, use your Selenite to cleanse your other stones.
Quick Fact for the "Junior Rockhounds";
Selenite: The fibers in "Satin Spar" Selenite act like tiny fiber-optic cables. If you shine a light at the bottom of a tower, the light will travel all the way to the top!
